Phoenix Burning: Poetry
We Meet
In a sea of faces I see yours.
Its aura called to me from among scores.
But my fear,
Pins me here
And I burn to break out of this rut.
I feel your eyes on me as your drink me in,
And I wait to see your lecherous grin.
But you smile
Like a child,
And your innocence charmed my chill away.
Summoning strength from somewhere deep inside,
I get off my seat and take the first stride.
Don’t be shy,
Just say, hi.
And now I fight my fears and take a chance.
Your awkward steps speak to me sincerely;
I think I see your intentions clearly.
I’ll take a chance
With your advance,
And I smile to signal my surrender.
Our conversation starts a little slow.
Suddenly hours slip by before we know.
So tonight,
Things feel right.
And we really wonder will this be true.
Last call, the crowd thins and the evening ends.
We entered as strangers and leave as friends.
A quick kiss;
Fleeting bliss.
We separate with smiles and hopeful hearts.
On this night
The planets are right
Venus aligns with Mars
And something’s in the stars
